Picking Up For a Friend

If you have someone picking up your packet for you they will require a copy of your email confirmation and a one-liner that states this person has permission to pick up your kit for you.

In May 2013 we moved to individual packet pickup policy, following the examples of the Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon and New York Marathon.

You will be allowed to pick up your own bib and a maximum of 3 other bibs. To do this you must have:

  • Signed copies of the confirmations for those three other bibs. Email confirmations are sent out the Thursday prior to the event.

Why we do this?

  • Event Security — We need to take steps to ensure that the person who registered for the event is the person with the bib number. That way we can be assured that the person who is wearing the bib is that person, in medical situations and police operations.
  • Data Privacy — Each registration has associated with it private details, such as date of birth and emergency contact. We are not allowed to share this information beyond the person whose name is associated with that bib number.
  • Data Accuracy — If you run with another person’s bib, you assume their details. i.e. if I, as a 40 year old, ran with a 90 year old person’s bib, I would most likely win that age category. And that result cascades through the timing results, ruining other people’s participation in the event.

We strongly suggest that all participants take responsibility for picking up their own individual packets.

Not only will this reduce your stress, but it will help ensure there are no errors in your registration data, that you have the correct shirt / bib number, and are all set for race day! Visit us at the Packet Pick Up and help support our sponsors that are helping to make the event day possible.

Any bibs not picked up at packet pickup will be transferred to the start line on race day.

Timing System Notes

Vancouver Eastside 10k will use a bib-tag timing system. This means you only have to pick up your race bib at packet-pick-up/registration; the timing chip is placed on the back of your bib number. On race day, you should wear your bib number on the front of your shirt or jacket. For optimum performance DO NOT bend, fold or mutilate your bibtag! And remember, it’s “NO BIB = NO TIME!”

Your bib must be correctly worn for your race time to be accurately captured.

  • Do not remove the timing tag or foam spacer from your bib.
  • Never fold your bib or excessively bend or twist the tag.
  • Wear your bib on your chest/abdomen. Do not wear on your back, side, leg or arm.
  • Do not cover your bib with your jacket or another layer of clothing.
