Cam Levins smashes the Canadian marathon record at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon

The 43-year-old Canadian marathon record has finally been toppled. Cam Levins, a native of Black Creek, B.C., smashed the record in his debut race at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, running a time of 2:09:25 to finish fourth overall. The former record, 2:10:09, was set by Jerome Drayton in 1975 at the Fukuoka Marathon. As payment, Levins will receive $43,000—$1,000 for every year the record has stood.

Speed River’s new recruit Mike Tate showed himself to be the class of the field as he powered his way over the hills, and around the innumerable twists and turns of the Oasis ZooRun 10k Saturday morning to break the tape near the wildebeest pen in 30:51, some 45 seconds clear of the field. The women’s race was much more competitive as Ethiopian-Canadian newcomer Boneshi Woldegorgis (36:12) played a cat and mouse game with Waterloo’s Erin McClure, stalking her most of the way before surging ahead for the win over the final kilometre.

Hofbauer and Wodak take the wins in the Under Armour Eastside 10K

VANCOUVER, September 15th.  Reigning Canadian Marathon champion Trevor Hofbauer comfortably won the sixth annual Under Armour Eastside 10K today ahead of a record 3,200 participants.  The top four men ran in a tight group until the 4-kilomtre mark before Adam Visokay, fourth place finisher, trailed off. Hofbauer took the lead ahead of second place finisher Lucas Bruchet and third place finisher Justin Kent , where he remained for the duration of the race.
